Six Months until 'I Do': Your Comprehensive Wedding Checklist

June continues to be one of the most popular months for couples to say “I do.” And 2023 coming to a close means June 2024 brides are just 6 months out from their big day! At this point many of the big decisions are likely crossed off your list, so now you’re focusing on assembling vendor teams, making wedding invites and finalizing wedding day fashion.

While the months leading up to your wedding day can be overwhelming and anxiety-inducing, we’ve outlined the top 10 things to check off your list now to ensure you stay on track.

  1. Send Save-the-Dates

    • If you haven't already, send out save-the-date cards to give guests a heads up about your wedding date.

    • If you’re having a destination wedding, we recommend sending Save-The-Dates 8 to 12 months out.

  2. Finalize Guest List

    • Confirm the number of guests you plan to invite and finalize the guest list. You likely already have this from the Save the Dates, but finalizing this number is important because everything from here on out depends on knowing how many guests to plan for.

    • Buy your wedding invites if you haven’t yet!

  3. Book Rehearsal Dinner Venue

    • Often times the rehearsal dinner is planned by the groom’s family, so this may not be on your list! We suggest booking this around the same time you book your venue, but if it hasn’t been reserved yet, now is the time to do it!

  4. Book your bridal accessory rentals (hair accessories, purses and jewelry) from Aveil!

    • Between now and your wedding day you likely have lots of events including your bachelorette party, bridal showers, rehearsal dinner and wedding day!

    • While you can book up to a week out from your date, we suggest booking accessories for all of these events (especially your wedding day!) now to cross it off your list.

  5. Create Registries

    • Register for gifts and create a wedding registry.

    • We recommend ensuring there is a variety of items and price points are available for guests.

  6. Arrange Wedding Day Transportation

    • Depending where you’re getting married, wedding transportation may play a very important role in making sure your guests have an enjoyable experience.

    • Begin by researching local transportation services that specialize in wedding events, considering factors such as vehicle options, capacity, and style.

    • Reach out to potential providers to discuss availability and pricing, keeping in mind the number of guests and the distance between venues. Confirm details such as pick-up and drop-off locations, itinerary, and any special requests.

  7. Plan and Book the Honeymoon

    • Research and book your honeymoon destination.

    • Ensure passports and any required travel documents are up-to-date.

  8. Schedule dress fittings and alterations

    • This timeline of six months in advance allows for multiple fittings, ensuring that any adjustments or customizations can be made with precision and without the pressure of last-minute changes.

    • Beginning the process early also provides flexibility in case additional alterations are needed or unexpected delays occur.

  9. Choose groom’s and groomsmen attire

    • Choosing the groom's and groomsmen's tuxedos six months prior to the wedding is a smart and strategic move.

    • Start by deciding on a cohesive style that complements the wedding vibe and color palette. This timeline allows for a leisurely exploration of various tuxedo options, considering details such as lapel styles, fabric choices, and accessories.

  10. Purchase Wedding bands

    • Purchasing your wedding bands six months prior to the wedding allows for a thoughtful and stress-free selection process. Start by exploring various styles and materials, considering factors like personal preferences and lifestyle.

    • This timeframe provides ample opportunity for resizing, engraving, or customizations, ensuring that your rings are perfect and ready for the ceremony.
